 Excellent with minor complaint September 4, 2010

The only complain I have is that there is no timer shut off so that I can have it automatically stop after 4 hours. After reading reviews, I came to the conclusion that letting the pot turn off by itself causes damage to the boiling chamber, which can result in cracks-->leaks-->fire hazard. Thus, I have to set up timer so that I can turn it off before the water finishes boiling out, thus limiting use to blocks of time that I plan to be home and awake for 4 hours. (If you have a good electrical outlet shut off timer that you can recommend, please let me know by commenting on this review!) Overall, it works great. The cooling fan is actually very quiet compared to normal fans. I clean after every use, and it still looks great. The citric acid included works very well as does vinegar.
Pro's:
-cheaper of the water distiller options out there
-distills 1 gallon of water in 4 hours
-comes with cleaner and a pack of carbon filters
Con's:
-no timed shut off feature, but will shut off when completely burned out
Conclusion:
I would highly recommend this product if you are in the market for a distiller. I will comment later on how my electric bill is affected by this device, but so far so good.

Extremely easy to use. Have used it a few times now and still not much residue in it using tap water. I like to use the distilled water in tea, ironing, and my steam mop.

This unit does a fantastic job distilling water. The water is absolutely pure with nothing in it to grow bacteria, etc. I purchased this unit to clean the water for my humidifier in the winter. The thought process was to use distilled water so I wouldn't need to constantly replace the filters. The problem I encountered was that my electric bill went up about as high as would be usual in a hot summer with the A/C running frequently.
I've tried drinking the water, but even after the unit has produced about a hundred gallons, it still has a metallic taste that makes my teeth ache and sucks the moisture out of my mouth (a reaction I find rather odd considering water is moist). That said, at the end of humidifier season I left the last pot of distilled water in the catch-jug, thinking I would use it if the winter came back one last time. Recently, I realized it had been sitting there for about 5 months. There was no mold, mildew or odor. I tasted it, hoping time reversed the effect of the water on my palate; it didn't.
To sum up, if you need a distiller for any reason, I recommend this one. However, if you have a high sensitivity to the various tastes of water, as I have (I can taste the difference between tap, Brita, Dasani, Ice Mountain, Figi, Evian and many others), I would not recommend it for producing drinking water.

I use it to make distilled water for my little bonsai trees. It looks good, is built solidly, and works like a trooper. I keep it outdoors now in the summer under an eave on our patio. It makes at least two gallons of distilled water for me each day. I'm glad I bought the glass container. I've had it for about a month and am very please with using it. The scale has to be cleaned out each week. I don't use a timer, just let it go until it shuts itself off. As others have said, it goes for about 5 hours.
It arrived well packed and on time with Amazon prime as always.

I bought this product after reading through the reviews. I was very excited to receive the water distiller. From the first time I plugged it in, I had problems. The fan doesn't work properly. Sometimes it will work, but most of the time it doesn't. No matter how many times I hit the reset button, it won't work. I also tried cleaning it with the vacuum cleaner as suggested by the company (from the manual). Nothing again. I finally took it apart to see if something was in the way of the fan. Nope! I have contacted the company and am awaiting a response. From the reviews I've read, I'm very concerned the company won't be willing to help me. I am completely disappointed with this product. The only reason I'm not giving it a 1 is due to the fact when it works, the water tastes great.
