Did you purchase Series 'A' or Series 'B' Omni-Filter (CB3-SS) One removes MTBE, but the other does not. Here's my review. July 28, 2010 Angels Unaware 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My issue concerns this third party seller for Amazon.com; for not displaying specific product information about the Omni-Filter CB-3 (SS6-05) to show that they are selling an older model filter previously marketed as Series 'A' for the CB3-SS Omni-Filter. A newer version of the CB3-SS Omni-Filter is currently marketed (coded as Series 'B). OmniFilter(Pentair,LLC) in Delavan, Wisconsin, advises that there are two basic differences between the new and the old CB3-SS filters. 1) Newer version Series 'B' is now designed to provide two additional months of service (filtration); 2) the new Series 'B' water filter removes MBTE (petrollium based gases), the old Series 'A' filter did not previously remove MBTE.
When speaking to a representative at Pentair Residential Filtration, LLC (OmniFilter), I was assured that the older Series 'A' filter was still a good filter despite the two exceptions previously cited. My issue remains unresolved, that this third party vendor for should have noted/indicated on the product page, that this product/item is the older CB3-SS (Series 'A) model for OmniFilter and Pentair Residential Filtration, LLC, and not the newer Series 'B' replacement water filter cartridge.
Two weeks prior to placing my order with the third party seller (waterfiltersonline), I purchased two Omni CB3-SS directly from Amazon.com, and was sent the newer cartridge/model: CB-3 Series 'B' product, even though Amazon.com advertisement (product page) displayed an old product picture of the Series 'A' filter. I was fortunate to receive Series 'B'(the current edition), per my initial purchase. If Amazon can sell it for 63% off retail, then why shouldn't this "Third Party Vendor" sell it for the same. This vendor does sell a comparable model, which notes that it removes MTBE; and is manufactured by "Flotec." Flotec is not affiliated with Pentair Residential Filtration (OmniFilter) in Wisconsin. Flotec is another manufacturer who makes undersink water filtration units & products, just as Sears, Whirlpool, or Culligan make undersink water filtration units & products.
Yes the Flotec filter is supposed to be designed to fit Omni Water Filtration Units (OT32 Omni Undersink Water Filtration), and so does Whirlpool, Culligan, and a few other companies who manufacturer similar Undersink Water Filtration Units. However, when developing a product web page/advertisement, many sellers will note that their product is comparable to Omni Undersink Replacement Water Filter Cartridges and fit specific Omni models, but this is generally noted in technical specifications and should not be associated in the TITLE of the merchandise/product on the advertisment. It would not be prudent or appropriate to insert the names of Sears, Whirlpool, Culligan, or GE, to preface the merchandise title or caption on the ad. Each are seperate entities, and each of these companies manufacture their own Undersink Water Filtration Units and Replacement Filters. Some will fit the Omnifilter OT32 model (which utilizes the CB3-SS Replacement Water Filter Cartridge), and some companies do not manufacture comparable filters which can be cross-referenced and used in Omni Water Filtration Units (in this instance).
So when a seller or Internet vendor list the following in their product pages: "Omni CB3-SS6-05 Carbon Block Undersink Replacement Water Filter Cartridge" by Flotec; is the buyer/consumer getting an authentic Omnifilter product, or are they purchasing a comparable product, manufactured by "Flotec?" And if there have been revisions in the product design, which edition will the consumer be receiving. In this case will it be "Series A" or "Series B?"
Life is too short to continue more investigation concerning these gray areas pertaining to this product. I am quite satisfied with my initial purchase, sold by Amazon.com (the Series 'B' filter) but I have returned the product shipped by the Third Party Vendor/Seller and requested a credit/refund. It will be interesting to see how they handle product returns and rate their efficiency in this endeavor.
Filter does not fit. January 7, 2009 Barbara J. Willhoit (North Liberty, IA USA) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
I purchased this cartridge to replace the original cartridge in my Omni CBF3 undersink filter unit. The new filter assembly is 0.0125" taller than the original assembly. The new filter uses thicker gaskets on the top and bottom surfaces. The taller filter will not allow the top and bottom halves of the canister to screw together sufficiently to compress the filter unit sealing o-ring.
As a result the canister now leaks.
Several emails to Omnifilter prompted a half-hearted response from a lady named Linda. The conversation follows:
Me: Explanation of the problem...
Linda: Please remove the gasket on the cartridge and re-insert the cartridge. This should stop the leaking.
Me: If I remove the gaskets there will be no sealing surface to force the water through the filter. The water will bypass the filter.
Linda: The water will still go through the filter without the gasket.
Me: Are you indicating that, without the use of the gaskets, the filter will make a WATERTIGHT seal with the upper and lower halves of the filter housing?
Linda: Yes.
The less-than-enthusiastic response led me to keep the old, thinner washers in the unit. So far, no leaks.
P.S. If my research is correct, this filter removes particles larger than 0.5 micron, whereas Brita filter pitchers only remove particles larger than 30 micron...60 times larger. My old socks filter water better than a Brita pitcher.

Got the hard to find Kenmore 34451 from ebay and put this filter in it.. cheap setup that delivers great tasting drinking water that is on par or exceeds reverse osmosis units, the best I've ever tasted aside from water from natural springs.
