1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work   August 31, 2010

I installed this filter 3 weeks ago into my water line that feeds the ice maker. I previously had a different brand filter that had been working but was getting old and needed to be replaced. After flushing this filter for the recommended amount of time, I let it make some ice. I discarded the first few batches before testing the ice. It is more cloudy and has more white floaties than it did with the old filter. I've never done a review before, but the ineffectiveness of this product caused me to want to warn others. Buy something else and avoid the regret/lost time.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT WATER FILTER   August 28, 2010
BADDOG10
THIS IS A GREAT FILTER. HOOKED IT UP TO A DISPENSING FAUCET FROM A CULLIGAN 2 STAGE UNDER SINK FILTER. WITH THE CULLIGAN, THE WATER SMELLED LIKE ROTTEN EGGS AFTER CHANGING THE FILTER INSERTS (2) WITH ONLY 1 WEEK OF USE. ( CONTACTED CULLIGAN AND NEVER HEARD FROM THEM). JUST TOOK OUT THAT UNIT AND REPLACED IT WITH THE WATTS AND HOOKED IT UP TO THE FAUCET FROM THE CULLIGAN.
WORKS GREAT NO MORE SMELL AND COSTLY FILTER REPLACEMENTS. LOVE IT! USE IT DAILY FOR GREAT TASTING COFFEE
WILL BUY ANOTHER TO REPLACE ONE IN OUR WINTER HOME IN FLORIDA

4 out of 5 stars It's a water filter that filters water. Pretty amazing, huh?   August 27, 2010

This replace my old 1,500 gallon ice and water filter with a 20k gallon filter for a very reasonable price. It was easy to install and seems to be doing what a water filters do, so, mission accomplished! I wish I could say it turns water to wine but that may be asking a bit much for 30 some-odd bucks.

5 out of 5 stars Looks Good - Tastes Good - Smells Good - Pure!   August 20, 2010

This is the same one I bought before. And I bought it again.
So obviously I'm pleased with performance. It kills the chlorine smell/taste entirely.
Hopefully it helps with any other stuff that's in there which I can't taste or smell.

The old one worked very well. The water still tastes fine after at least a year.
Replacing ahead of schedule. Mainly because I didn't want to miss out on the deal.

When I complete the installation I will leave the old filter (which will not be expired yet) as a primary stage and the new filter as the secondary stage since it's still good for two or three years.

The water should be ultra pure now! The primary stage should make the new filter last longer since the bulk of contaminants are removed before it gets there. That's my theory at least.

Two stages will help because technically I use it beyond it's specified flow rate of 0.5 gpm. I custom made a simplistic faucet, sort of like the one that's over the spit bowl at the dentist, next to the fridge for drinking water. I just bent a shepards hook in the 1/4" copper tubing and attached it to a little "T" valve. Werks nice! I used a splitter to supply the faucet and the fridge's icemaker. Next fridge will have the faucet in the door but not sure when that will be . . .

Britta is a pain and gets in the way. I never bothered to try it. And look at the size of it, this thing is three times the size of one of those things
It's like 2.5 inches in diameter for perspective. A little bit of trouble to install this and you will not have to worry about changing the filter for a long time. Especially easy if you have a fridge with a built in faucet.

5 out of 5 stars I'm glad I purchased this item   July 6, 2010

I've had my fridge for over 10 years and have been putting in water filters yearly. Lately the same supplier that told us the filters must be changed on a yearly basis changed the recommendations to six months. Then they changed their prices upward as well. When I saw the 5year filter I nearly fell off my computer chair and ordered one immediately. I received one in a few days and using my existing parts hooked it up in less than 5 minutes. It took about six cupfulls of charcoal cleansing water to clear up the flow and we were in business. I frankly don't know if this filter will last the full five years, but if we still get good water in three years I will be most pleased.Watts 5YR Premier Filter 5-Year/20,000-Gallon Inline Ice Maker Water Filter
